The Sepang International Circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke. The track was completed in a record time of 14 months, and was officially opened on March 9, 1999 by former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. The track can accommodate up to 130,000 spectators at a time, while the main grandstands and 18 air-conditioned corporate suites have a capacity of 32,000. The Sepang International Circuit is more than a circuit; it is thought of as the home of Malaysian motorsport, acting as a motorsport hub and catalyst for the country’s motorsport industry.
